Dr. Vera BOLTHO Head Cultural Policy and Action Department

 In her capacity o Head of the Cultural Policy and Action Department of the Council of Europe, Strasbourg, France, Vera Boltho has overall responsibility for the audits of national cultural policies undertaken throughout Europe, particularly in central and eastern European countries. Through special projects, the Department also assists former communist countries in the transformation of their cultural policy from the previously very centralised model into an open and strategic programme. Other projects of the Department analyse societal and technological changes in relation to cultural policy. Examples include the "Role of the new technologies", "Cultural diversity in relation to globalisation" "Cultural and conflict prevention" and "Networking as a new form of cultural co-operation".
 
 In previous positions Vera Boltho has been concerned with public policies in the areas of education, higher education, health and social issues. Here she has developed the competence, acquired during her studies which range from comparative literature and linguistics, to sociology and public health. Her work has mainly consisted of comparative policy analyses in Europe.
 
 Mrs Boltho is regularly invited to be chairperson, general rapporteur, speaker and special guest lecturer at conferences, seminars, university courses and other events; these have included Ministerial conferences, the Davos Forum, the Human Rights Institute, etc.
