| In 1990 Vuk Draskovic neglected book-writing to found the Serbian Renewal Movement party. During the ten years long struggle against the regime of Slobodan Milosevic he lead Democratic opposition parties of Serbia. He strongly opposed the wars, war crimes and ethnic cleanings in the former Yugoslavia. The Milosevic regime murdered several dozen of the leading members of the Serbian Renewal Movement party and Mr. Vuk Draskovic himself was arrested twice (in 1991 and 1993). The second time his wife Danica was also arrested and they were both subjected to the most brutal torture in police custody. His wife Danica and himself were released thanks to the pressure exerted by the most influential international community officials including the USA President Bill Clinton, Russian President Boris Yeltsin, French President Francois Mitterrand and his wife Danielle, Greek Prime Minister Constantin Mitsotakis, British Prime Minister John Major and many other who advocated their release most resolutely. | |
| In October 1999 and in June 2000 Slobodan Milosevic ordered the secret police to assassinate Mr. Draskovic when four of Mr. Draskovic s closest associates were murdered. | |

| His novels "The Judge", "Knife", "Prayer", "Russian Consul" and "The Night of the General" were bestsellers in the country and abroad. Some of them were translated into English, French, Russian, Greek, Romanian, Czech and many other languages. |
