6: Expert Meeting Statistics, Structural Indicators

The Expert Meeting Statistics, organized by the European Advisory Committee on Statistical Information in the Economic and Social Spheres (CEIES) and the Austrian Statistical Society (OeSG) will supplement the discussions by examining the statistical basis of the political analysis: the indicators approach to measure the progress towards the Lisbon objectives. It will be investigated whether the structural indicators meet policy needs and if methodology and metadata are sufficient to ensure proper use and avoid misuse. The role of indicators in general will be examined, pitfalls of rankings will be discussed and the statistical limitations of the EU – US comparison will be considered.
