Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Two Works in Progress

Christo präsentiert neben anderen künsterischen Aktivitäten, die er gemeinsam mit seiner Frau Jeanne-Claude weltweit realisierte, zwei herausragende künstlerische Projekte „Over the River“ und „The Mastaba“. Das Projekt „Over the River“ befindet sich seit 1992 in Planung und Vorbereitung. Als Termin für die Realisierung ist momentan das Jahr 2015 vorgesehen. Zwei Wochen soll eine Strecke von ca. 10 Kilometer des Arkansas River im US-Bundestaat Colorado von Stoffbahnen überdacht werden. Die Stoffbahnen werden an Stahlseilen befestigt, die in den höher gelegenen Stellen des Ufers verankert sind. The Mastaba, ein Projekt, das inhaltlich bis ins Jahr 1977 zurückreicht, wird die größte Skulptur der Welt werden. Sie soll aus 410.000 bunt lackierten Ölfässern entstehen, die ein Mosaik formen, das sich an islamischer Architektur orientiert.
