Biodiversität schützen und Klimawandel eindämmen

Bemühungen zur Eindämmung des menschlich mitverursachten Klimawandels werden von EntscheidungsträgerInnen und WissenschaftlerInnen oftmals in einer fragmentierten anstatt integrativen Weise umgesetzt. Ähnlich verhält es sich mit Strategien zur Wiederherstellung von Biodiversität. Wie können wir ein gemeinsames Narrativ für Biodiversität und Klimaschutz im Kontext der UN-Nachhaltigkeitsziele entwickeln? Welche Instrumente können integrierte politische Strategien fördern?

Irina BOKOVA

Former Director General, UNESCO - United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, Paris

 Irina Bokova is a Bulgarian politician and was the Director-General of UNESCO from 2009 to 2017. During her political and diplomatic career in Bulgaria, she served, among others, as deputy minister of foreign affairs and minister of foreign affairs ad interim under Prime Minister Zhan Videnov. She also served as Bulgaria's ambassador to France and to Monaco, and was Bulgaria's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. She was both the first female and the first Southeastern European to head the agency. At UNESCO, Director-General Bokova advocates for gender equality, improved education and preventing funding for terrorism.

Dr. David NABARRO

Former Special Adviser to the United Nations; Professor, Institute of Global Health Innovation, Imperial College London

 Dr Nabarro is a medical doctor, international civil servant and diplomat, who served as Special Adviser to the United Nations Secretary-General on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and Climate Change. He also led the UN's response to the cholera epidemic in Haiti and previously served as the Special Envoy on Ebola. In September 2016, Dr Nabarro was nominated by the UK to stand for the post of Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Dr Nabarro has been appointed as Professor within Imperial’s Institute of Global Health Innovation (IGHI) in 2018.

PhD Kristín Vala RAGNARSDOTTIR

Member, Club of Rome, Professor of Sustainability Science, University of Iceland, Reykjavík

 Kristin Vala Ragnarsdottir works on natural resources and their link with the economy, developing indicators for wellbeing economy, circular economy, sustainability indicators for soil, tourism, wellbeing, finding fabric for sustainable communities with focus on food security, and imagining sustainable futures. Her most recent interests are developing an economic framework and impact strategies that aid achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, casting light on corruption in natural resource management, and investigating the direct links between population, food and phosphorous.

Dr. Heinz FISCHER

Former Federal President, Republic of Austria; Co-Chair, Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens, Vienna

 Dr. Heinz Fischer has had an extensive career as a senior representative and policy maker of the Republic of Austria. As Federal Minister of Science and Research and speaker of the Austrian National Assembly for more than 12 years, he was involved extensively in supporting and advancing the country´s scientific, social and cultural development. In 2004 he was elected Federal President of the Republic of Austria. After more than 40 Years in public office and two terms as Federal President he retired in 2016. He was proclaimed Chairman of the Council for the Commemorative Year 2018 by the Federal Government of Austria as well as Co-Chairman of the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens.
