08: Dominanz der Geldpolitik über die Fiskalpolitk in der EMU
The seminar will first discuss the economic and political rational for the EMU project and its potential gaps and pitfalls. It will then look at the ECB monetary strategy and address the challenges facing the single monetary policy and the E(S)CB in the upcoming enlargement. After that the relationship between the single monetary policy and national fiscal policies is examined. This leads to an analysis of the Stability and Growth Pact. The seminar closes with a discussion on the practical problems facing fiscal policy makers in EMU.
Two renowned guest speakers, Willy Friedmann (Deutsche Bundesbank) and Thomas Wieser (Austrian Federal Ministry of Finance), will complement the seminar.
Participants receive (in most cases downloadable) reading material in advance. They are asked to prepare themselves prior to the sessions and to (jointly) produce a short summary of each day´s session.
