The aim of the seminar is to examine Europe’s sluggish economic growth and to assess, with reference to the EU’s „Lisbon strategy“, feasible options available to policymakers for increasing Europe’s long-term growth potential. Issues to be raised will include the channels of education, R&D and innovation contributing to productivity, the role of structural adjustments and increased competition to foster growth, the possibly growthretarding impact of the present macro-policy framework, but also methodological problems in the context of indicator measurement and target implementation. These issues will be related to the general economic perspectives of the EU, including the challenges posed by enlargement and necessary transitions in light of the draft EU constitution.
