Alpbach University Day

"Transfrontier Research in Materials Science" has been chosen as the topic for the 2nd University Day of the European Forum Alpbach to show that the scope of materials science far exceeds what is familiar as the research of the various university departments. Almost all aspects of our daily life can be related to materials science, be it our daily food including biotechnological products, our dwellings or mobility, IT gadgets or medicine as well as sports and the arts. There will be a Nobel Prize winner, a series of presentations from Austrian universities, a panel with top experts in economics and science and last but not least a sophisticated art installation: all of them make the effort to demonstrate that materials science - beyond the limits and dimensions of individual disciplines - has a strong impact on our permanent "perception and decision".
