Health Symposium
-Inequality causes illness. Factors such as education, income and living circumstances have a huge effect on our health. What is the connection between socio-economic inequality and the impact upon health? Do incentive systems strengthen inequality? Where can or should health policy intervene in order to ensure equality of opportunity?
Illness creates inequality. How can we ensure that those with a need for intensive care, those suffering from chronic illness and those in their vicinity have a substantial voice? How can we compensate for disadvantages caused by illness?
The Alpbach Health Symposium will deal with the question of which role to assign state provision in order to eliminate the close connection between inequality and illness. How can social exclusion due to illness be minimised? How can we motivate people to take responsibility for their own health?
