Legal Symposium

Ideally, the law is a pillar of societal resilience, that is of a society’s ability to master challenges and crises and turn them into opportunities for advancement by tapping into existing resources. Does the design of our legal system allow us to handle crises quickly and efficiently?

We will first examine general aspects of this topic before progressing to a selection of specific issues. What are the necessary foundations for a Europe governed by the rule of law, and how can we strengthen this concept? What would constitute a meaningful application of the subsidiarity principle? What legal options and consequences follow from the right to national self-determination, and what does this imply for autonomous movements? The 2018 Legal Symposium will raise vital contemporary issues such as migration which creates strain on our legal system, and gender mainstreaming in the legal professions.
