Culture and the media: Are they opposites? Artists and writers depend on newspapers, television and radio in order to find an audience for their work. The standards of many journalists, however, are not artistic: Journalists are often more interested in sensationalism than in quality, and pay more attention to the "business of culture" than to culture itself. In addition, the question arises as to whether the mass media exercises the powers of a "dictator of the mainstream" and thus contributes to the homogenization of culture worldwide. Media reporting changes the object of the report itself, and occasionally it appears as if the critics were more important than that which they criticize. What lies ahead in the field of cultural journalism? What will cultural journalism be like in the future?
