Media Symposium

-

The enlargement of Europe poses a dramatic challenge for the media: trade barriers and travel restrictions will be removed, but linguistic barriers will still remain. Regional resistance to European centralism is growing. Democracy requires public opinion, which is created on the basis of the media. But how can public opinion be created and have an effect across national borders? What hindrances does the transfer of information face? How interesting is Europe and how interesting can it be made for individual consumers of the press, radio and television? The Alpbach Media Symposium 2004 will discuss the new situation of Europe and set a thinking process in motion which will occupy media producers and consumers intensively in the future.
