Alpbach Talks: When peace wins

-

Civil war raged in Liberia for 14 years. The people suffered under all the usual attending evils: military use of children, rape, forced migration (for one in three of the population) and more than 200,000 deaths. “It was hell on earth,” says Leymah Gbowee, co-founder and spokeswoman of Women of Liberia Mass Action for Peace. The end of the civil war in 2003 was down, in no small part, to Leymah Gbowee and the women who campaigned with her.

As part of her visit on the invitation of the Evangelical churches of Austria, the Nobel laureate joined Thomas Seifert to discuss her experiences and strategies along with current challenges facing those working for peace.
