Reform Symposium

-

The Reform Symposium will deal with the Services of General Interest. The European discussion process was initiated by a Greenbook of the European Commission and will lead to a definition of the role Member States play in the future provision of Services of General Interest and the extent to which related activities of Member States will be dictated by EU-regulation.

The debate will focus on a new definition and management methods concerning functions of a nation state: in other words, on the extent of political authority at national and EU levels. The economic viability of various European solutions is to be questioned. Different systems of delivering these services and different regulation cultures will be compared.

In expert fora stakeholders will test proposed principles and general requirements of Services of General Interest in relation to practical needs.
