Reform Symposium
-By 2010, Europe plans to become the most competitive and dynamic economy in the world through strong, sustainable economic growth and to create more and better jobs. However, the results reported to date have been rather sobering. After a thorough discussion of the current state, the Reform Symposium will thus examine how Europe can remain competitive in the future in central areas:
Is the statistical basis for EU-US benchmarking sufficiently reliable? Is there any need for reform? How will the European labor market have to be organized in order to make the European model of social security competitive? What contribution can a revamped environmental policy, in particular a new climate policy, make in this context? Which specific approaches to a comprehensive, new innovation policy are necessary in order to help Europe's many small and medium-sized enterprises move forward? What role can women play in this process?
