Seminar Week
-The Seminar Week is the academic heart of the European Forum Alpbach and is characterised by the space it gives to discussion, its interdisciplinary atmosphere and intergenerational dialogue. For a week, Alpbach becomes a hive of innovative knowledge transfer: academic seminars in the mornings (Seminars 1-15), artistic and practical seminars in the afternoons (Seminars 16-28). The interplay between these two types of seminar allows knowledge and active participation to be combined in a new way. Find some reflections by our Secretary General Philippe Narval on the Seminar Week here.
The Alpbach Learning Missions (ALM) are a new addition for this year. Following on from the academic discussions during the first week, they offer participants the opportunity to work together in tackling a concrete question in depth – with help from experts – and ideally to put forward some concrete results.
Specialist knowledge is not necessary for participation in the seminars. Seminars 1-15 will take place from 16.08.2019 to 21.08.2019 from 9:30 to 12:30. Seminars 16-29 will take place from 15.08.2019 to 20.08.2019 from 15:00 to 18:00. On Sunday, the 18th of August 2019, the seminars will take place from 12:00 to 14:00 and from 15:00 to 17:00.
After the Seminar Week, five Seminars turn into Alpbach Learning Missions (ALM).
Please note that the programme is subject to change and will be updated continuously. If you have questions regarding the programme, please contact clara.rindler-schantl@alpbach.org.
During the Seminar Week there will also take place the opening ceremony of the European Forum Alpbach 2019:
In front and even on top of the installation „Under Construction: Conditio Humana“ by Lois Anvidalfarei, the R.E.T. Brass Band will premiere the commissioned work “Framework” by Christof Dienz. Briefly before her sudden death, Ágnes Heller wrote the opening speech, which will be delivered by the philosopher Josef Mitterer.
Sunday, August 18, 10.30-12.00 am in front of and inside the Congress Centrum Alpbach
Free admission to the Opening Ceremony, we are looking forward to welcoming you!
