The specialist research areas of all disciplines represented in the Faculty of Humanities 1 (arts, philosophy, archaeology, history) have indeed evidence of remarkable research results to report. Such concrete results have been able to clearly demonstrate these disciplines special ability to find solutions only available to the humanities by determining the relationships between the Past and the Present and thus distinguish their insightful approach to those of the natural sciences.

Other research projects and research results apply to political and cultural areas in particular the highly sensitive and topical problems of the culture of memory and minorities being directed at questions of constants in aesthetics and music. It also revolves round the central theme of the historical construct of gender and both the meaning and threats to the cultural heritage both within and out with Europe's borders. A high point is a sensational new discovery in documents from the Middle Ages.
