This event is designed to serve a twofold purpose: discussion of biotechnology's merits for society as well as portrayal of Austrian frontier research in this field. As biotechnology is applied in many areas of everyday life these days main themes will concentrate on health, energy and nutrition. Main theme on Friday afternoon will be Austrian excellence in biotechnology research. After the presentation of excellent Austrian research projects the Austrian contribution to a bio-based economy and needed measures will be debated in a panel discussion. The morning session on Saturday, titled "Bio-based economy - benefits and risks", will focus on major future trends and biotechnology's capacity to solve emerging problems including people's reservations against bio-technology. Three key note-speakers will set the grounds for the second panel discussion.
