Economic Symposium

-

In many parts of the business world, globalization has become an integral area of activity which has long been considered a matter of course. For "the average woman or man on the street," however, it is often an emotionally charged "enemy force" and a scapegoat for economic and social problems. In the middle of this conflict we find the national state, which is confronted with ever-decreasing latitude for action as well as the high expectations of citizens with regard to the state's problem-solving capacities. Against this backdrop, renowned politicians, business people, journalists and experts will discuss the future role of national states, the power of multinational companies, the positive and negative aspects of globalized financial markets, and perspectives on a new form of "global governance" at the Alpbach Economics Symposium in 2005.
