17 Media from a Theoretical Perspective
The construction of the civil public sphere by the media created a broader access to power. The media established themselves as the “fourth branch”. In the digital age, this power, which rested on the basis of a functioning business model, is massively being called into question. The seminar will give an overview of the development of the media’s theoretical reflection and their role in and for society. At the same time, it will investigate the question of whether and how the societal and the economic development of the media mutually influence each other.
