04a: Is there a Future for the European Welfare State?
Supported by the Bertelsmann Stiftung, Julius Raab Stiftung and Ecosocial Forum
Europe’s welfare systems are facing enormous social, environmental and economic challenges that partly require completely new regulatory frameworks. In Germany and Austria, social market economy made it possible to manage the financial and economic crisis relatively well. Does the (eco-)social market economy, however, also have the potential to become a common framework for Europe? What kind of economic, social and ecological framework conditions are required to make Europe fit for the future?
