in deutscher SpracheThe identification of a person is meant to determine his or her identity, i.e. the sum of the characteristics that make people different from one another. This clear unambiguous difference has always played an essential for the social, economic and political coexistence of people, and it increases with enhanced communications and worldwide travel.
Which proportion is there between the determination of identities, e.g. through biometrical procedures, to exercising one s own personal rights? Is the use of modern methods of identification a necessity in order to be able to appropriately secure the personal rights and freedom of a state s citizens? How have the means and methods of identification changed during the ages and what about the future? Which repercussions are caused by increased security requirements for international travel and how are they perceived by the population?
These questions will be discussed in this working group by experts from various areas, e.g. jurisprudence, public opinion research and natural sciences.
