in deutscher SpracheWhile the theoretical possibility of parallel worlds is still being intensely discussed on a quantum-mechanical level, it has long been in use on a virtual level. It is due to our IT society that is transferring communications but also more and more parts of social life to the web. But it is by no means just “social networks” that determine everyday life in a digital world. Like everything in life, this has advantages and disadvantages. Who determines the rules in our digital parallel world? What opportunities does the on-going digitalization of knowledge offer? And above all, how will technological innovations enable us to explore these digital worlds ever more deeply?

| He studied law in Vienna, and worked at the Department of history of law and at the Legal Department of University Directorate at the University of Vienna from 1985 until 1990. He has been working at the Austrian Ministry for Science and Research (BMWF) since 1990, and held diverse leadership functions in the Department for higher education since 1993. In 2001 Faulhammer was named head of the Unit for Universities of Applied Sciences. From 2003 until 2005 he held the position of Deputy Director General in the ambit of legal matters, and has since then been actively involved in the implementation of the University Act 2002. He held the position of Director General of Department for Higher Education at the BMWF from 2005 until July 2013. Since August 2013 Faulhammer holds the position of Rector of the Danube University Krems. 2017 and 2018 he was President of the DRC (Danube Rectors´Conference) and is currently Vice President of the DRC. |
