01: The Welfare of Nations in the 21st Century

Thomas Piketty showed in his book “Capital in the 21st Century” that our economic system supports wealth redistribution from the bottom to the top. However, such a divide within society has negative consequences on the overall economic development of a nation. Much potential remains unused. What and how do the rich contribute to societal wealth? Is there already too much redistribution? How does inequality affect welfare?
