04: The European Union and Its Neighbours
In cooperation with CEPS - Centre for European Policy Studies
The European Union’s relations with its geographical neighbours, and more specifically with the countries involved in the European Neighbourhood Policy and Russia, confront the EU with major challenges. The 2013 Vilnius Summit delivered sobering results and the Ukrainian crisis has highlighted the tense and increasingly confrontational nature of EU-Russia relations. In addition, the EU’s Southern neighbourhood remains volatile and its response to the ‘Arab Spring’ still needs to be assessed. This breakout session will analyse the current state of the EU’s relations with its geographical neighbours and discuss how to improve them.
