09: Beyond European Communication
Supported by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management of the Republic of Austria
The failure to “communicate” Europe is often cited as a reason for growing euroscepticism among citizens. Indeed, European communication offers room for improvement, and campaigns and communication strategies alone will not be sufficient. There might be a need for a more emotional approach. What are the current difficulties of communicating Europe and would a new European narrative solve these difficulties? What kind of communication strategy wins citizens’ attention and support for the EU? Which new ideas do we need in order to establish a deeper connection among Europeans? And finally, how can we involve citizens actively in these processes?
