10: Young Refugees in Europe: Missed Opportunities – Future Chances?

More than 25.000 young people applied for asylum in 2013; half of them in the EU. The majority was between 14 and 17 years old. 25 years after the ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) we focus on the situation of unaccompanied minor refugees. How can the UNCRC be applied to Europe’s migration and asylum policies? What are challenges and special needs of unaccompanied minors – what kind of inequalities do they face? How do these issues relate to broader debates about migration and asylum? We will work on this topic by undertaking a simulation game.
