13: Truth and Reality: The Importance of Models in Economy, Science and Philosophy

-
Hotel Böglerhof
Breakout /
in deutscher Sprache

Controversial discussions abound in the fields of natural and social sciences and the humanities about the truth and reality of models. What can economists and mathematicians irrefutably tell us about the world? How do archaeologists construct models of the past? What is the model that quantum physics is based on? And for what purpose, philosophers and religious scholars ask, do we need models anyway? Is reality too complex? Are there alternative approaches? Which of the (virtual) reality models applied will stand the test of practical implementation?
