16: Energy Supply in Transformation – Inequality in Access to Markets and Political Power
Supported by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management
Energy supply is experiencing a structural transformation. Old business models are losing their guarantee of success; new challenges such as climate protection or the entry of diverse new actors onto the market render the extrapolation of previous developments obsolete. The debate around market access and agenda-setting power has been shaped by the discussion of long-standing privileges, new framework conditions and subsidies. What do the structure and the key actors of the future energy system look like? What rules and instruments do we need for the transformation of the energy market? Which factors are decisive?
