Partner Session 05: Cross-Border Healthcare in Practice – Patients’ Rights in the EU
Organised by the Alpbach Summer School on Healthcare and Social Systems in Transition
The European Commission is assuming a more active role in influencing public health policies at all levels. However, people have been exercising their right to free movement for a longer period of time. Thus, their mobility has created a situation with which national systems and organisations are still struggling to catch up. How can cross-border healthcare work in practice and who is in charge? This session will give an overview of ground-breaking ECJ rulings on health matters, data protection and patients’ rights in the EU using practical examples from different EU border regions and a case study.
