At the doctoral level, the concept of research-led teaching needs to be translated into a highly differentiated model that both transcends “teaching” and yet defines what research-driven institutions like universities signify. What are adequate models for doctoral training – what models best foster the individual development of early-stage researchers? How can universities define conditions for doctoral education that enhance critical, innovative and highly risk-oriented projects? How can we best define the roles of supervisors and candidates? And who trains the trainers, i.e. how do we establish a peer culture for supervisors?
