Diverse decision culture: Effects on business models – The wisdom of crowds vs herd-thinking

Examining the correlation between diversity and corporate performance, studies show that businesses with greater diversity in decision-making bodies enjoy better financial performance. Some ascribe this correlation to the ‘wisdom of crowds’ as opposed to ‘herd thinking’. Can the wisdom of crowds bring about new, resilient organisational structures? If so, how?

 Dr. Michael Hirt is President & CEO of HIRT&FRIENDS, a global management consultancy (*2001) that helps its clients to achieve and master profitable growth. HIRT&FRIENDS has attracted clients such as AVL List, Coca-Cola, Johnson & Johnson, IBM, BSH Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte, ZF Friedrichshafen, Gebrüder Weiss, Harman Intl, T-Mobile, Mondi, and over 50 other leading public & privately-held companies. Dr. Hirt attended the Harvard Business School (LPSF) and holds an MBA from INSEAD (Dean’s List Award), a Dr. in law with distinction from Vienna Univ. and an LL.M. from McGill Univ., Montreal. Before starting H&F, Dr. Hirt was with HSBC Investment Bank in London, Austrian industry holding group ÖIAG, and the Boston Consulting Group, were he received several awards for distinguished client service. His prolific publishing includes over 100 articles, a regular Management Column in the Newspaper "Die Presse" and 7 books on a wide range of management issues, including "Competitive Advantage Diversity" (with F. Linhart) a study of best practices of leaders in diversity management.
