Secretary General, Caritas, Vienna

Mag. (FH) Klaus SCHWERTNER

Secretary General, Caritas, Vienna

Klaus Schwertner has been managing director of the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna since 2013. Besides being managing director he is head of communications. After completing his studies in "Health Management" at the IMC University of Applied Sciences Krems, he headed the PR & Communications department of the NÖ Landeskliniken-Holding, where he was spokesperson for the 27 hospitals in Lower Austria. As spokesperson for the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna (2008 to 2013) Klaus Schwertner started the initiative "Gegen-Unrecht: Kinder gehören nicht ins Gefängnis" in 2010, which was supported by over 75 organizations and more than 116,000 people. With a #flowerrain for the new year’s baby, Schwertner showed in 2018 how to counter hate in the net and turn a shitstorm into something wonderful. Like almost no other he knows how to draw attention to the burning issues of society and the situation of people in need. For his dedication he was honored "Communicator of the Year" in 2018.
