The population of Africa is set to double by 2050. To cope with this increase, 20 million jobs will need to be created every year. What political conditions need to be in place to empower entrepreneurship and create decent jobs that don’t harm the environment?

Gbenga SESAN

Executive Director, Paradigm Initiative, Lagos

 Gbenga Sesan is the Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative, a pan-African social enterprise working on digital inclusion and digital rights through its offices in Cameroon, Nigeria, Tanzania, Togo and Zambia. Prior to starting Paradigm Initiative, 'Gbenga led the Lagos Digital Village, a joint project of Junior Achievement of Nigeria, Microsoft and Lagos State Government. Originally trained as an Electronic & Electrical Engineer at Obafemi Awolowo University, he completed Executive Education programs at Lagos Business School, New York Group for Technology Transfer, Oxford University, Harvard University, Stanford University, Santa Clara University and University of the Pacific. 'Gbenga's consulting experience includes assignments completed for numerous institutions, including Microsoft, Harvard University and United Nations agencies, among others, in over 30 countries. A Schwab Foundation Social Entrepreneur of the Year and former member of the United Nations Committee of eLeaders on Youth and ICT, he is a CyberStewards Fellow, Crans Montana Forum Fellow, Archbishop Desmond Tutu Leadership Fellow, Ashoka Fellow, Our Common Future Fellow and Cordes Fellow. ‘Gbenga served as a member of the Presidential committees on Harmonization of Information Technology, Telecommunications and Broadcasting Sectors (2006) and Roadmap for the Achievement of Accelerated Universal Broadband Infrastructure and Services Provision (2013), and was listed by CNN as one of the Top 10 African Tech Voices on Twitter and by Ventures Africa as one of 40 African Legends Under 40.

Ali ASLAN

TV Presenter and Journalist, Berlin

 Ali Aslan is a Berlin-based international TV presenter and journalist with over 20 years experience as a talk show host, news anchor, correspondent and moderator. His journalistic career spans three continents and includes work for CNN in Washington DC, ABC News in New York, Channel News Asia in Istanbul and Deutsche Welle TV in Berlin. An experienced TV anchor, Aslan hosted the international talk show 'Quadriga' on DW which reached 200 countries and 90 million viewers each week. Aslan regularly moderates and emcees high-level international conferences and events around the world and has shared the stage with top world leaders and personalities, among others, Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron, Justin Trudeau, Bill Clinton, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Sergey Lavrov, Christine Lagarde, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, Vicente Fox, Madeleine Albright, King Felipe VI of Spain, Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, will.i.am, Jane Goodall and Melinda Gates. Aslan studied International Affairs and Journalism at Columbia University and International Politics at Georgetown University. He is a Fellow of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and a member of the Körber Network Foreign Policy and the Global Diplomacy Lab. Aslan has been named a Young Leader by the BMW Foundation, the American Council on Germany, the Munich Security Conference, the German Marshall Fund, the Bertelsmann Foundation and the Atlantik-Brücke.
