MPA MA Cathryn CLÜVER ASHBROOK
Executive Director, The Future of Diplomacy Project, Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard University, Cambridge
| Cathryn Clüver Ashbrook is a German and American national and the founding Executive Director of the Future of Diplomacy Project at the Harvard Kennedy School (HKS), which examines the challenges to negotiation and statecraft in the 21st century. In January 2018, she was named Executive Director of the Project on Europe and the Transatlantic Relationship. From 2011-2017, she served as the Executive Director of the India and South Asia Program at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at HKS, a program which ended formal activities in 2018. Her areas of expertise include EU-US relations - including trade and security policy - and digital public policy in urban and national contexts. She served on the management team of the European Policy Centre in Brussels, where she was the Deputy Editor of its public policy journal, Challenge Europe and the think tank’s Communications Director, before joining Roland Berger Strategy Consultants as Senior Journalist and consultant in 2005. There, she worked on public policy issues (demographic change, urban competitiveness, green energy) and advised both the consultancy’s Chinese and French offices on branding and communication strategies. In 2009 she served in the second Bloomberg mayoral administration, where she implemented an online program for New York City's 1.8 million limited-English-proficiency migrants to access essential public services. She began her public service career as a legislative adviser at the European Parliament and later the UK House of Commons. |

Ivan KRASTEV

| Ivan Krastev is the chairman of the Centre for Liberal Strategies in Sofia and permanent fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences, Vienna. He is a founding board member of the European Council on Foreign Relations, a member of the Board of Trustees of The International Crisis Group and is a contributing opinion writer for the New York Times. In 2018-2019 Ivan is appointed as the Henry A. Kissinger Chair in Foreign Policy and International Relations at the John W. Kluge Center, Library of Congress. His latest books in English are 'After Europe' (UPenn Press, May 2017) 'Democracy Disrupted. The Global Politics on Protest' (UPenn Press, May 2014); 'In Mistrust We Trust: Can Democracy Survive When We Don't Trust Our Leaders?' (TED Books, 2013). He is a co-author with Stephen Holmes of a forthcoming book 'The Light that Failed' (with Penguin) on perils of the politics of imitation. |

| Angus Lapsley joined the UK civil service in 1991, working in the Department of Health and then the UK Representation to the EU, before serving John Major and then Tony Blair as Home Affairs Private Secretary. | |
| In 1999 he joined the Foreign Office, leading the EU Institutions Unit during the negotiations of the Nice Treaty. Posted to Paris between 2001 and 2005, he followed foreign and security policy issues. From 2006 he was Deputy Balkans Co-ordinator in the FCO, and from 2006 to 2010 he was Counsellor and head of the Common & Foreign Security Policy (CFSP), CSDP and EU Enlargement team at the UK Representation to the EU. | |
| In 2010 he became Director (Americas) in the FCO, overseeing the UK's diplomatic operations in the region, before moving to the Cabinet Office as Director in the European and Global Issues Secretariat in April 2012. He oversaw bilateral relations, EU institutional policy, EU external policies and a range of global economic issues. He also led the Cabinet Office's role on the review of the balance of competences between the UK and the EU. | |
| In March 2015, he became the UK's Political and Security Ambassador to the EU, where he represents the UK on the committee that deals with all Common Foreign and Security (CFSP) policy issues. He also covers CSDP, Trade and Development dossiers. |
