03: Religion and Power

-
Hauptschule
Seminar /
in englischer Sprache

The claim to political power posed by religion will be analysed with regard to its historical development and in light of the contemporary situation. The aim here is to deconstruct the widespread conception that religion is deployed in claims to power only within the context of Islamism. To what extent is the Christian religion likewise deployed by political actors and politicised? The Enlightenment was the point at which people began to break with religion as an arbiter of power. Are we now at a turning point at which a new Enlightenment is required so as not to fall back into forms of rule we once believed had become obsolete?
