The conflict was abolished. Instead, differentiation and ambiguity emerged as strategies of criticism. Even if it is desired by many organizers and marketing strategists, art is reluctant to provide conflicts or scandals as practiced in the 1960s. Conflict as a coincidence of different positions and views arises in art itself, or is linguistically embedded, as Peter Geimer states. This seminar is less about resolving conflicts than about addressing them.
Starting from the venue Alpbach, we focus on the central conflict of claim and right in the public-political community. Payment without any claim to individual compensation is the political instrument of distribution – the tax. We look for the public and private interests within the community and the specific role of art and cultural work in this specific constellation.
The seminar will include different formats: In interviews, an excursion, text exegesis and image analysis, we will deal with the question how conflict and cooperation interact with each other.
