12: Ethics in Action

Despite impressive economic dynamism and poverty reduction over the past few decades, it becomes increasingly apparent that our current global economic paradigm features some fundamental design flaws. The lingering effects of the global financial crisis combined with rising inequality and the uneven benefits of globalisation and technological change are creating great strains on societies. In this seminar we will discuss the reorientation of the economy toward the pursuit of the common good. In that context, social teaching as well religiousphilosophy offers a compelling framework that seeks to humanise and ethicise rather than replace the market economy.
