04: Macroeconomic Imbalances in Europe: Is EMU Doomed to Survive?
The implementation of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) marked a new era in European integration, changing the face of monetary and economic policy in Europe. How will the EMU influence InEquality: by maximising convergence or only by minimising divergence? How equal can Europe hope to be in the Eurozone of tomorrow? This seminar attempts to find answers to several questions that still remain on the table: does the EMU and the Euro only work during “sunshine”? Are recent reforms and policy actions enough to reduce existing imbalances and to increase integration in Europe?
