02: The promotion of research and innovation in Austria: governance between management and autonomy
More than 10 years after their institutional mergers in their present form, Austria’s federal promotional bank Austria Wirtschaftsservice (AWS) and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG) are the central promotion agencies for applied research, technology and innovation for the country. The institutional evaluation of AWS and FFG deals with organizational questions as well as their systemic integration with regard to ownership, commissioning and independent activities. Has the Austrian multidimensional and interdependent model proven itself? What about the future – should form follow function or should we address the problem the other way round?
