Global Talk: #MakeInIndia – India on the fast track?
India, set to overtake China in 2020 as the world’s most populous country with more than 1.35 billion people, has for years excelled with rapid economic growth of more than seven per cent per annum. The government has initiated numerous programes like its “Smart City Initiative”, “Start-up India” or “Make in India” in order to reshape India as a hub for global production and innovation.

Ph.D. Balan GURUMOORTHY

B. Gurumoorthy is a Professor at the Indian Institute of Science in the Centre for Product Design and Manufacturing (CPDM) and the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Presently he is also serving as the Chief Executive of the Society for Innovation and Development (SID), a Society established by IISc to serve as the outreach interface for the beneficial exploitation of the innovations and the human potential existing at the Indian Institute of Science. His research interests are in the areas of CAD, Product Information Modelling, Computational Metrology and Product design and prototyping. He did his B.Tech at IIT Madras in 1982 followed by M.E. and Ph.D. at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA in 1984 and 1987 respectively (all in Mechanical Engineering). He has guided 17 Ph.D. dissertations and is presently supervising or co-supervising 6 Ph.D. students. He is working on projects funded by Faurecia and the Government of India. He has 43 Journal publications and 4 patents. He serves as Associate Editor of three journals. He is currently the Vice-Chair, Asia-Pacific, IFIP WG 5.1 on Global Product Development for the Whole Life Cycle. Two technologies (automatic feature recognition, visual interactive solids) developed in his laboratory have been licensed to industry and are in active use. |

Binod is responsible for the following functions in Infosys: Recruitment, Global Immigration, Quality, Government Relations, India Business Unit, Computer & Communications Division, Information Systems, Information Security Group, Procurement. He is a "Trustee" of the Infosys Foundation & Infosys Employee Welfare Trust. Binod has over 32 years of industry experience and has held several leadership positions at Infosys. He joined the company in 1993 as the Head of Manpower Planning. From 1996 to 1998, he was Head of the Customer Support Group for the Banking business unit. Subsequently, he was Senior Vice President and Global Head of Commercial and Facilities functions. Binod took on the role of the Global Head of Commercial and Corporate Relations functions in 2010. As a responsible corporate citizen, Binod has funded the establishment of a 150-bed hospital for Sri Sringeri Mutt. In an honorary role, he is the Chairman of the Board of Governors at Rangadore Memorial Hospital, which is named after his father, the late H.S. Rangadore. Binod started his career in MICO BOSCH as a technical sales engineer. He has a bachelor's degree in industrial and production engineering from the BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, India. |
